Where Words Fail, Music Speaks.

I’ve been tagged by Vishesh and Nikhil :

Think of THE song that most inspires you to write, whether it gives you an idea for a story, script or just puts you into a better frame of mind AND/OR peek into the lyrics and find a verse that sums up the theme of whatever project it is you’re working on.

If possible, post a video of the song to convey to readers the full context of the song and the mood it puts you into. Finally, send the assignment to five other writers to do as well.

Theres no song that inspires me to write as such, but surely, there are songs that put me in a better frame of mind. These are the songs that make me happy and boost my self-esteem. Its hard to think of just one song. So I’m going to put up a number of songs ! Hope thats ok …. “Duh!”  Who Cares ?! ;)

Note : The songs below do not follow any particular order.

Song 1 - Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield. I just love the lyrics of this song! I listen to it everytime I’m low or feel sad. The video doesn’t do justice to the song, so never mind.

.

Song 2 – Different World by Iron Maiden. Don’t just brush aside this one ‘coz it’s “metal”. The first time I heard this song, I fell in love with it. The guitar solo is amazing too. When you listen to songs like these, you realise that metal can come up with some meaningful lyrics as well.

.

Song 3 – Fly by Hilary Duff. This is not one of her showy pop singles where she just blabbers shit about parties and betrayals. This ones actually meaningful and such an esteem booster! I listen to it everytime I’m on the verge of breaking down. Really.

.

Song 4 – Wish you were here by Pink Floyd. This was the best thing that ever happened to music. Floyd remains my favourite every time I sulk. Coming Back to Life, Comfortably Numb, Time, Learning to Fly and many more. Guns and Roses come next.

.

Song 5 – I Have a Dream by Westlife ( original cover by ABBA ). Sweet and Sublime. Easy to relate.
.
Song 6 – It’s my Life by Bon Jovi. There was a time when all my playlists started off with “Have a nice day” or “It’s my Life”. I love the way Bon Jovi sings. You know Hard Rock Rocks everytime you listen to this. The song for many, is an anthem for self-reliance. Cool Video too.
.
Song 7 – Teenagers by My Chemical Romance. Firstly, its not an ‘inspirational’ song. I like this song for the message it conveys to the government and all the parents out there. After birth, we’re owned by our parents. After turning 18, we’re owned by the state. After joining work, we’re owned by the government/society. It’s all about how rebellious teenagers can be if you don’t give them their rights. Its sucha powerful song!
.
In the end, Gerard says : ” Violance is never the answer. If you feel like acting out, Reach Out.
.
Person 1 says : ” Basically I would say give us teens our rights and we wont rebel as hard as we do. Keep our rights and you are going to get nothing but heck. “
Person 2 says : ” Some people are just so fucked up afraid of teen anarchy, but hey, we all have a rebel inside of us “.

I say : I’m not going to put up the lyrics for this one and yeah, ” Teen Peace !! “

.

Song 8 – Time of your Life ( Good Riddance ) by Green Day. Billie makes you wonder how he can come up with such uniqueness in this song. The strumming of an acoustic guitar throughout the song radiates the very different style of Green Day. This is my third best song after Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Holiday.

.

Song 9 – In Dino by Pritam and Band ( Life in a Metro ). Wonderful Lyrics. Good one.

.

Song 10 – Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton. One hell of an acoustic mirale. “Clapton is God“. Enough said!

eric clapton

I’m now supposed to tag five more people. I therefore tag Prarthana, Meghana, Raghav, Ish and Sandeep. Rock on  !! :D

*my list shall be compiled and presented for thee’s viewing as the ancient markers of the sun decide to bench it out at the sea*

    yay!! u did the tag!
And all the songs you’ve listed are my favorites!!! Floyd!! Clapton!! Green Day!! wooo-hoooo!!!!!
But as far as inspirational songs are concerned, these put me in a good mood, and not necessarily inspire me… I love Maiden’s songs, especially The Educated Fool, where the lyrics make soooo much sense! I try getting inspired, but unfortunately, the weird man inside me is adamant about getting inspired by INXS alone…
Good list of songs here! Rock on, duh!!

P.S. Thoo ninna!! JD Fortune (INXS vocalist) is NOT gay! so, u have a chance… :P

Anyways, good stuff, rock on! \m/

    Cheers!

I’ve talked about Time of Your Life while doing my tag. It’s a beautiful song and the way Billie Joe has sung it is amazing. I actually took up learning the guitar because of this song because when you see the video, it’s just him playing the acoustic guitar and singing. I’m hoping I’ll be able to sing it one day.

I love It’s My Life by Bon Jovi. It’s like a style statement or something. And it’s very true because hey, it’s my life, I will do what I wish to do and I will do it now, for I won’t live forever. I somehow always associate this song and Summer of ‘69 by Bryan Adams together. Both songs are very lively and youthful. Love them both.

I liked almost all of the Metro songs quite frankly..even if Pritam has stolen most of them from other artists. He’s a really cool guy, Pritam. He’s awesome with his electric guitars and he manages to find young and good talent. I wonder on which railway station or at what place he discovered James..the guy who sang Bheegi Bheegi in Gangster and Alvida Reprise in Metro. Did you know the guy actually got totally drunk before singing Bheegi Bheegi just so all the feel would come into the song? Another thing I liked about Metro was the way the songs were picturised. It was nice for once to see the original singers singing the songs and not the heroes and the heroines lip syncing.

  16. 16 jane

love all teh songs ya’ve put up out there girl..
    :)
the song i’ve a crush on ryte now s ‘bubbly’ by colbie caillat- it’s an awesum song- feels so refreshing, right from head to toe..
also like oange sky, by alexi murdoch..

so many others, yehhh.. but music is a language in itself :)

  17. 17 Priya

@ Ish : You took up learning the guitar due to time of your life ? Whoa ! I agree, its such a different song compared to the rest of the green day songs. Bon Jovi is THE man !! He seems to be getting younger and younger every year!! I like summer of ‘69 too !! Also 18 till I die !
About Pritam…totally agree….for once we’re not just listening to the usua playback singers. He got in te whole ‘band’ thing into the indian movies.

    @ Jane : Oh! I havent heard bubby…will do that soon! Thanks !! :)

  18. 18 ish

I should’ve said I’ve taken up the guitar because of that song because right now I’m completely clueless about it. I know only 3 chords using which I can play a John Denver song according to a website. I don’t feel so, though.

Btw, are you on Facebook? If you aren’t, you really need to be!

  19. Awesome list……headbang headbang….lol…..:)

  20. 20 Priya

@ Ish : Hey Ish, there are many songs that can be played using just 3 chords. I think you should continue learning. Now that all your exams are done, how about re-thinking ? You are into Leads or Bass ?? Don’t follow the websites. They’ll suck.

Facebook ?? Buahahhaha !!! Yeah, was….but deleted the account. *Addiction*
    *Distraction* and stuff.

    @ Artisticked : Haha !! Yeeah, Headbang Headbang !! :D
